This is a guest post by Trainual Certified Consultant Connie S. Falls (the “S” stands for Systems) and is part of a diversity and inclusion series on The Manual.

Hey, Entrepreneurs! It’s me, Connie S. Falls. You may know me better by my internet moniker, #SystemsBae. But how you know me isn’t as important as how I can help you take your business all the way up in 2022.

Now, if you hang around The Manual from time to time, you may have seen my recent overview on the evolution of systems in the Black business community. If you haven’t, you might want to check it out first. It’s a good primer on what systems are and how they can benefit your business — regardless of the racial construct you ascribe to.

In the continued spirit of Black History Month & Excellence, I would like to highlight four of our amazing clients!  My team and I have had the pleasure to build their custom operational systems, so that they may continue making Black History in their individual lanes. And since I’m passionate about building operational systems for disenfranchised communities, I want to share how my team helps  our community make the most significant strides in creating legacy businesses.

I know all founders love a good case study, so I have four clients that exemplify the power of systems and how they can work for you regardless of your industry, product, or service.

Skaterobics

Skaterobics is a roller skating school that delivers high-energy, action-packed, and fun-filled roller skating and roller-dance classes. Providing unforgettable experiences in NYC, Skaterobics has been featured in The Washington Post and The New York Times, while being dubbed one of the most fun things to do in NYC.

My team helped Skaterobics eliminate the chaos by streamlining their process, including:

  • Assigning booked classes to teachers.
  • Processing class payments.
  • Internally tracking their merchandise.
  • Creating efficient internal workflows and standard operating procedures.

It’s all fun and games on the rink until you have to wade through unorganized and undocumented pre- and post-class tasks. Not to mention making sure that every class has the right teacher. So, that’s where my team came into play. We helped Skaterobics set up the systems they needed to take their customer experience, internal operations, and business trajectory to the next level.

Check them out on IG to learn more about their excellent classes.

Mahari Raw

Mahari Raw is a hair and beauty brand that provides every woman with quality hair extensions in various textures. Their products have made them the number one brand for textured hair extensions in the country. Their internal systems, however, were not at the top of their game.

When it comes to providing products, businesses can quickly and easily get out of control behind the scenes because of all of the moving parts in the product chain. To get those bundles from the supplier to the excited customers — minus the headaches in between — I introduced Mahari Raw to my team and we went to work!

Together, we documented their warehouse management process in a comprehensive and easily accessible form. This is huge because current and future employees can now be efficiently and effectively onboarded and trained to provide the same level of service as the owner, Jennifer. The load is much lighter on everyone involved, which means fewer slip-ups and more five-star reviews!

Check out their offerings on IG.

EnvyMe Hair Studio (Chicago)

EnvyMe Hair is a boutique salon specializing in multicultural hair care, extensions, and natural hair. They’re all about styling the everyday woman from the inside out, and their hallmark is excellent customer service and an elevated beauty experience. They provide cosmetic services, hair care, natural hair color, relaxed hair care, braids, and protective styling of all kinds.

The power in this kind of service is the consistency of the experience. To help them more confidently provide that stellar salon experience day in and day out, we helped them document their customer service values and processes. Under the direction of the CEO and founder, Lalitha Arnold, EnvyMe Hair studio thrives on making each client feel fabulous from the moment they walk through the door. With their unique flow documented, they can ensure that all current and future team members and stylists will continue to deliver their excellent standard. We also created an organization chart with custom job descriptions for each role to help clarify the roles and responsibilities of each employee. With these new documents, onboarding and quality assurance will be a breeze.

Witness the power in these stylists’ hands on their IG!

LA Tax Company

The La Tax brand is a one stop shop for financial assistance. They offer tax preparation and an app to make filing taxes easier. They’re a professional tax service with cutting-edge tax preparation software and A1 customer service.

At the helm of the LA Tax brand is LaTrisha, who is juggling a lot with LA Tax & Associates, LA Tax Services, and LA Tax Solutions. With so many businesses under her brand, she found herself spread thin and unable to take a break.

That’s where my team and I  swooped in to save the day! We streamlined the processes she has for all three businesses under the LA Tax brand. With comprehensive process documentation, standard operating procedures, automation, and a clean onboarding process, LaTrisha can finally take a vacation without worrying that her business will blow up while she’s gone.

Check them out on IG and make this tax season a breeze.

How can systems help your business?

In all the years that I have been teaching business owners about systems and how to create them, I have learned that they all share one thing in common: it’s harder for them to work on their business than in it.

If you have to perform all of the tasks for your “business”, you’re a freelancer — not a business owner. My passion is in saving your brilliant self from drowning under menial business tasks so that you can focus on your next amazing idea and let the business run itself.

To do that, you need good systems and tools. With these two things, you can:

  • Identify the roles that your business needs to support future growth.
  • Create clear job descriptions for each role based on industry and government standards.
  • Implement a smooth and reliable onboarding process that will protect your company values and bottom line.

It’s easier than you think — especially when you have a good business playbook tool in your box. So, when you decide take your business to the next level and sign up for one, tell them #SystemsBae sent you.
