Process for Building a Presentation Deck in Keynote

The importance of a presentation deck

Building a good presentation deck is important because it can help you effectively communicate your message and ideas to an audience. A well-designed presentation deck can keep your audience engaged and interested while making it easier for them to understand and remember your key points.

To launch Keynote

Our company uses Keynote (part of the Apple iWork suite) to create presentations.

To launch Keynote:

  1. On your Mac, click on the "Finder" icon in the dock.
  2. In the "Applications" folder, locate the "Keynote" app and double-click it to launch.
  3. Alternatively, you can open Keynote by clicking on the "Launchpad" icon in the dock and clicking on the Keynote icon.

If you have not yet installed Keynote on your Mac, you can purchase it from the App Store or download it as part of the iWork suite from the Apple website.

If you’re using an iPhone or iPad, Keynote can be found on the home screen. Just tap on the Keynote icon to open the app.

How to create your presentation deck

  1. Open Keynote and create a new presentation. The first step in building a presentation deck in Keynote is to open the program and create a new presentation. This can be done by accessing Keynote from the Applications folder on a Mac and clicking the "New" button to create a new presentation.
  2. Select a template or theme. Once the new presentation has been created, the next step is to select a template or theme for the presentation. This may involve browsing the available templates and themes in Keynote and choosing one that aligns with the business' brand guidelines and the objectives of the presentation.
  3. Add content to the presentation. The next step is to add content to the presentation. This may involve adding text, images, charts, and other elements to the slides and organizing them in a way that is clear and engaging for the audience.
  4. Customize the presentation. After the content has been added to the presentation, the next step is to customize the deck to match the business' brand guidelines. This may involve adjusting the colors, fonts, and other design elements of the presentation to align with the business' brand.
  5. Review and proofread the presentation. Before finalizing the presentation, it’s important to review and proofread it to ensure that it’s accurate and error-free. This may involve reading through the presentation and checking for typos, grammar errors, and inconsistencies, and making any necessary corrections.
  6. Submit the presentation for approval. Once the presentation is complete and ready for review, the next step is to submit it to the marketing or PR team for approval. This may involve sending the presentation to the team for review, and waiting for their feedback and approval before using the presentation in a public setting.
  7. Use the presentation in public. Once the presentation has been approved, go do your thing! Get out there and win the audience over with your amazing presentation skills and crowd-winning slide deck.
