We were pretty intentional about picking the prices for our packages at Trainual because we’re looking for a particular type of customer.
First, a quick run through of our plans! Our Basic plan is great for teams of 5 just getting started and needing a place to document their systems and processes as they get ready to scale. The Pro plan (our most popular) includes up to 25 users and is perfect for small businesses that are growing fast. Our Premium plan has up to 100 users and some additional features like location-controlled logins that larger companies would find super useful. These three plans range from $79-$199 per month (cheaper if you bill annually), and of course, we have options for companies needing over 100 users as well.
With that said, if you’re not a fit, no problem. But, maybe this post will help shed some light on our thought process and how our customers value the system.
Why Don’t We Have a Free Plan?
Simple. There are plenty of free options available to do the work of documenting your processes. Before Trainual, we used Google Docs, Evernote, Google Sites, Microsoft Word and Pages. Those are great places to start.
So What Am I Paying For?
The right customer for Trainual doesn’t just want to document. They want to organize, train, track, and test.
With other systems, you might create sets of folders to organize your content. With Trainual, you tag each individual policy or process with a role or department in your company, so you can instantly see who needs to know what.
With other systems, training might simply be sharing a folder of files with your new hire. In Trainual, you’re inviting users to a sequence of step-by-step material, improving their onboarding experience.
With other systems, training is one-way. In Trainual, you have the full transparency to know which people have signed off on which policies and processes, and even the ability to create simple tests to check knowledge.
Sure, you can use a free system. But our customers see the value in these upgrades.
Why Don’t We Charge Per User?
If we charged per user, you might try to hack the model by sharing logins. That defeats the benefit of Trainual; individual accountability. So, we use tiered pricing that is appropriate for organizations of different sizes.
Why Is It a Subscription Cost?
Your systems and processes are a living, breathing thing within your business. So, training isn’t a one-time occurrence, but a consistent pulse of being able to access material when it’s needed, and update material when it changes. A subscription fee most closely matches the utility of the product.
Why Is It Month To Month?
You can pay annually, but we’ll never force you to. Investors and financial analysts want to see long term contracts to measure the stablility of a business. But we measure this through engagement. If you aren’t constantly using the product, you have every right to put us on hold, or cancel.
Is the Cost Worth It?
That’s up to you to decide. If we try to convince you it’s worth it, and it genuinely isn’t for your particular situation, you might be upset with us later. But for customers that sign up and use the product, the cost is insignificant compared to the value it provides. Think of any cost in your business as an investment. If you didn’t expect the value you receive from something to be greater than the cash you spend on it, why buy? Great question.
If you ever hire someone new, how long does it take you to get them up to speed at full productivity? Using Trainual could shave hours off of that timeline. Planning to sell your business or pass it down to a successor? How much smoother would the transition go with a well documented manual of your systems and processes? How much higher of a valuation might you be able to command?
The act of documenting processes means reviewing step by step sequences. With a collaborative group effort, you might eliminate certain processes and upgrade others, so that everyone is operating at maximum efficiency. What is that worth?
This Seems Crazy Valuable. Why Not Charge More?
If you want to pay more, there are plenty of enterprise options out there. We’re not them.
We think that every company should have an instruction manual. Clear processes lead to happier employees, more profitable businesses, and more satisfied customers.
Still Can’t Justify The Investment?
That’s completely fine! We hope you’ll continue to follow our content, download our free resources, and engage with us on social media. As we evolve and your business evolves, maybe the cost benefit matrix will line up for us later on.
